Järvikylä School in a Nutshell
The School is situated in the town of Nivala, about 160 kilometres south of Oulu. The school building was built in 1938 but the School itself had been working in Järvikylä as early as 1900.
Järvikylä school is an Elementary School with three teachers and about 55 pupils from grades one to six (the ages of 7-12). There are 6 basic classes but only three study groups at our school, because both the 1st and 2nd, 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th grades are combined for the time being.
Most of the subjects start at 1st grade, but English starts at the 3rd grade and History, Chemistry and Physics start at the 5th grade. We offer Special education for those who need it.
Technology Education plays an important role at our school. We are taking part in Technology Education - NOW! -project and we teach technology to every grade. (See pictures in the link "valokuvia"). The modern technology is used at our school and one of our goals on the school curriculum is to teach with the help of it.
Also music programme is a very important part of teaching in Järvikylä School. We are used to sing a lot at this school.
We are taking part in Comenius-project ART ON THE MOVE. Our partners are European Schools from Spain, Bulgaria and England. The project will last 2009-2011.
School and its surroundings are ideal for Physical Education and learning about nature. School itself is situated next to a forest and the Lake of Pidisjärvi. We have a playground and even an ice rink in the wintertime.
Our aim is to support the growth of pupils into becoming responsible members of society. We encourage pupils to be independent but still respective to other people. The foundation of learning is built on students´ experiences, skills and knowledge, which we want to develop continuously.
